About Saghar Khayyami

Saghar Khayyami is regarded as a significant voice in Urdu poetry, particularly known for his wit and satirical humor. Born into a literary family in Lucknow, his grandfather, Shair Lucknowi, and father, Zakir Lucknowi, were both poets of repute, fostering an environment rich in culture and literature.

Initially, Saghar began his poetic journey with traditional ghazals. However, influenced by his elder brother Nazir Khayyami, he soon discovered his true talent in humor and satire. This unique blend became his signature style, setting him apart in the realm of Urdu poetry.

Khayyami received his early education in Arabic and Persian, later learning English. He served on the non-teaching staff at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where he continued to cultivate his literary interests.

His notable collections include "Under Craze," "Pas-e-Roshni," "Qahqahon ki Barat," and "Kucch Wahaan ke Liye," all of which garnered positive acclaim. The culmination of his work is presented in "Kulliyat-e-Saghar."

Saghar Khayyami masterfully blends humor with poignant observations about society, often critiquing the hypocrisy and superficiality of modern life. His poems entertain while evoking deeper reflections, leaving readers with a bittersweet sense of understanding.
