Munawwar Rana


Munawwar Rana (born 26 November 1952) is an Indian Urdu poet, lyricist, and writer. He is one of the most popular and influential poets of his generation, and his work has been translated into many languages.

Rana was born in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, India. He studied at the Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi, and after graduating, he worked as a journalist and editor. He began writing poetry at a young age, and his first collection of poems, Aaina (Mirror), was published in 1974. He has since published over 20 more collections of poetry, as well as several novels, short stories, and essays.
